If I heard someone say "blah blah blah monitoring", I would probably not go back to them unless I knew them, and wanted to talk to them about something specific. (I think of this as an indication of their presence on the frequency rather than an open invitation to chat --- an action that strictly speaking is not permitted according to the UK license.) A general CQ I interpret as an invitation for _anyone_ to respond, so I might. Does anyone agree with that? W1AW skeds are published periodically (npi) in "QST". The New Jersey Slow Net (NJSN) for years has taught traffic handling at slow speed, which improved both traffic handling and code skills. The net makes good listening for SWL ham wannabes, as well as Novices. Perhaps there is one on a frequency near you. See if you can get hold of a League NET DIRECTORY, which lists nets in the National Traffic System, et al.
